Using Mobile Technology for Commercial and Social Impact in Emerging Markets
In emerging markets, mobile connectivity is skyrocketing: 4 out of 5 mobile connections worldwide are made in these countries. This increased connectivity offers new opportunities for social entrepreneurs, development organizations, and businesses to solve market pain points and reach underserved consumer segments. Join this webinar to learn how the mobile technology ecosystem is driving positive socio-economic change in emerging markets and how you can apply mobile technology to your own impact work.
Julia Burchell, Manager at GSMA M4D Impact, will discuss some of the opportunities mobile technology presents for progress on health, education, economic growth, and more. She’ll also explain how the freely available data, analysis, and insights available on GSMA’s open portal can offer support to innovators who want to leverage mobile technology for good.
Julia currently leads research into mobile industry partnerships in mobile for development (M4D), having joined the M4D Impact team in 2013 to oversee community collaboration strategy and activities. This followed three years specialising in mobile for development and gender, during which time she supported the launch and implementation of the GSMA Connected Women Programme (formerly mWomen), leading the programme’s knowledge sharing initiatives and event project management. She brings a strong background in corporate communications to her work, having previously represented organisations across the telecommunications, utilities, accountancy and law industries. Julia holds a first class honours degree in English from The University of Nottingham and an MA in Writing from Goldsmiths College, University of London.
